CLEAR WATER IRON
Clear Water Iron may be present when water comes out of the tap clear, but as it sits and oxidizes, turns shades of brown and develops a yellow to rust color when exposed to air. It can cause rust colored stains in the basin, tub and toilet and staining of clothes after washing.
Iron is commonly treated with automatic iron filters, which can remove both dissolved and oxidized iron compounds. Water softening is sometimes used to remove dissolved iron in low levels, and may be used in conjunction with iron filters if the water is both hard, and high in iron.
Iron is generally not thought of as toxic, although there are some studies that show liver toxicity to men at low levels.
